The hedges, fields and lakes of the Upper Charente
The lakes of the Upper Charente lie in the Charente Limousine, a country of trees, grass and water. We can also include the cow as the beautiful limousine variety is such a graceful feature of the meadows. The pastures are lush, dotted with tall trees. This is a land of hedged fields, of rolling countryside covered with coppices of chestnut, forests of oak and cool streams. The river Charente rises here. Two lakes have been created to control its course, the lakes of Lavaud and Mas Chaban. Almost 400 hectares of fresh water are available for outdoor enthusiasts.
