Saint-Fraigne, ephemeral gardens

» What to See » Gardens galore » Saint-Fraigne, ephemeral gardens

The village of Saint-Fraigne straddles the waterways of the Osme in the centre of a zone of water and peat bogs, a natural habitat of freshwater marshes. The ephemeral gardens, created by young landscape gardeners, flourish here from spring to autumn.

The imaginary and the ephemeral

Every year, ten areas are entrusted to young landscape gardeners.
Basing themselves very freely on a different theme each year, they lay them out as they wish.

The water gardens

Between land and water, the footbridges take you from one island to another, from one garden to another, on the trail of the plants which grow in these damp conditions. Saint-Fraigne is a land of marshes. Its identity, its history, its economy all depend on this special environment where flax, hemp, peat and maize flourish...
The Arborescence festival a recent event which is developing more and more each year is their showpiece. The children also have their own area to explore [hedges, labyrinths, wicker tepees, weeds running riot...].
