Don't forget to look up as you explore Angoulême, from the town hall, the former earl's château and birthplace of Marguerite de Valois to the Cathedral of Saint-Pierre, via the 19th century covered market which replaced the “Châtelet” in 1886 or the Hôtel Saint-Simon with its splendid Renaissance carved facade.
Along the way, decorated walls draw tour attention to authentic signed by Yslaire, Zep or Moebius... serve as a reminder that the visual image has a special place in the town.
You want to send a couple of post cards. Start with the imposing Romanesque cathedral of Saint-Pierre with three hanging cupolas and a magnificent screen façade. Then the National Centre for the Comic Strip created by Roland Castro, like a giant glass vessel which preserves, exhibits and lends everything forms the treasure of the 9th art.
