The slipper meets its master
In the 18th century, off-cuts of felt from the Royal Arsenal in Rochefort were used to make slippers which were then slipped inside clogs. The charentaise, a very cosy slipper, made its appearance in the castles (it is said that La Rochefoucauld introduced them at Versailles), farms and country houses
