Autour d'Aubeterre - Moors and white cliffs

This route, close to the Périgord, takes you to three rivers : the Dronne, the Tude and the Viveronne. Holm oak, box and juniper thrive on the slopes. Villages and hamlets are dotted along the route as well as the sign of a former rural economy [mills, bread ovens...].
You must spend a long moment in Aubeterre, one of the « Most Beautiful Villages in France » and its 11th century underground church...

Valley of the Issoire - Paule Lavergne trail

The mountains of the Charente are in the valley of the Issoire. In this area close to the Limousin, the relief is granitic, with steep rocky slopes. The stone is grey, the plants are mountain species such as wolf's-bane or digitalis. In the fields you can see the fine Limousine cows which originate from this region.

The river Charente - Meanders and humpback bridges

This short simple circuit runs along the banks of the river between limestone cliffs, rows of vines and twisting waterways. Iris, wild orchids, hyacinths and snake's head fritillary grow along the banks and paths. There are small beaches ideal for a rest, a picnic or bathing in the Charente.
There are signs of past activity on the river : fisheries, mills...

Ruffécois - Vallon des Chaumes

< Circuit 3 hrs - 9 km >

On the edge of the Poitou, this circuit wends its way through the sweet chestnuts and the redlands. It was a stronghold of Protestantism in the au 15th century and traces of the preachers can still be seen : churches, outdoor pulpits, castles... On the way, stop in the village of Poussabé et the restored bread oven at la Grenouillère.
Not far from the path can be seen the Pierres Blanches windmill at Villefagnan.
